When Buildings Collapse

You are a team of geologists hired by an architectural firm to develop a 5-6 page website and a 3 minute voiced-over IGNITE* presentation (12 slides) explaining dangers of fault lines.

This presentation will be used to help the architects consider local geologic features when designing buildings, so you must explain the risks of buildings near faultlines (see recommendations below), as well as recommendations for mitigating them.

Choose one of the following areas:

Northern California, Southern California, Japan, Guatemala, Chile or Turkey

Include:

Background: What are faults, what is an active fault, what are the signs of an active fault, why is an active fault a hazard. - be specific to your area by giving examples.

Brief history of the longest or more dangerous active faults in your area.

Recomendations for building on or near active faults in your chosen area (consider not only the buildings but the service lines, too - a service line means water, electrical lines, sewer, etc.) - "Just don't build there" is not an option.
