What is it that Avery is asking you to do?

Dear Students,

My name is Avery Une. I live in Talamanca, Costa Rica, and I need your help. The Vanishing Construction Company (VCC) has started their plan to cut 100 acres of trees to make room for Uppity Resort. The director of the VCC does not care about the beautiful blue moth that lives here. He says that we are making a big deal about the lousy moth and that the rainforest is big enough as it is. It is just full of insects and snakes so, who cares?

I am worried that if Mr. Cuttatree gets his way, not only the blue moth will disappear, but that the entire rainforest ecosystem will collapse. Would you please help me explain to him the role of the different species in the rainforest, and what happens if only one species disappears? Perhaps if you all write letter from the perspective of an organism in the rainforest, explaining its role in the ecosystem, and provide him with enough evidence that proves how important each one is, we can convince him that building the Uppity Resort is a bad idea.

Sincerely,

Avery Une
