WEEKLY BLOGS

in Science 7 and 8

The purpose of this type of blog is for you to summarize the work you did over the week, helps you identify the Science and Engineering Practice you used in order to think like a scientist and leads you to discover the relationship between the concepts.

There are three sections. All sections must be present in order for your blog to be deemed complete and considered for XP.

Image

Include one image directly related to the topic under study (this can be a graph, illustration, picture, etc).

Do not forget to properly attribute the image. This means that you have to include the linked title and author of the image.

Summary

When you are writing your summary,  think that you are answering the question

“What do I know about (the topic)?"

Briefly explain what you learned over the course of the week. This is a summary that tells us the topic under study and some specifics about what you learned.

For example: “Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter is all around us, even if we cannot see it. In class, we proved that air is made up of matter. We weighed an empty balloon, then filled it up with air. Although the difference in weight was slight, there was a difference. This means that air actually weighs something, proving that air has mass."

Do not include things like “Monday we…, Tuesday we …”.

Crosscutting Concepts Crosscutting concepts bridge disciplinary boundaries and unite core ideas throughout the fields of science and engineering. These concepts deepen your understanding of the disciplinary core ideas and help you develop a coherent and scientifically-based view of the world.
