SUSTAINABILITY  

Humans create a tremendous amount of trash that just gets thrown into our landfills. One way to help lessen the amount of solid waste in our landfills is to reuse items for different purposes. For instance, we all know that we can make a bird feeder out of a plastic gallon jug, but there are many other ways to reuse solid waste. The only limit is our imagination.

 

Your assignment is to create a useful item out of solid waste that would normally be thrown away at your home. You may use several pieces of trash in making your creation and it may have a completely different use from what it was originally designed. The only stipulations are that you do not use any items with sharp edges that might cut you or someone else and do not use items that will rot.

 

 You will share your creation with your classmates during project exhibition. This will be a museum type exhibit, so your product will need to be accompanied by an index card that explains your new useful object. Have fun digging through the trash and remember what you create should be something you plan to use!
