“Science is not about making predictions or performing experiments. Science is about explaining.” ― Bill Gaede
Process of Science 6th grade
Design an Experiment
Develop and follow a procedure.
Include a detailed materials list.
The outcome must be measurable (quantifiable).
The experiment must have ONE manipulated (or independent) variable - what you change; and ONE responding (or dependent) variable (the thing that changes in reponse to your manipulated variable.)
Every attempt should be made to keep all other variables constant (without change).
Example:
Remember, John is trying to figure out:
"Will the amount of sugar in the recipe affect the size of the loaf?"
Which is the manipulated and the responding variable? What should be kept constant?
mixing time, amount of sugar, amount of yeast, height of the loaf, size of the pan, amount of flour, temperature of the oven
